Loch Dee which is over one mile long and half a mile wide is situated about ten miles west of New Galloway and is well up in the Galloway Hills where the scenery is stunning. If you head out on the A712 towards Newton Stewart for about five miles you will see Clatteringshaws Loch on the right, take the minor road that runs down the side of the loch.

The fishing on Loch Dee was until a couple of years ago managed by the Forestry Commission but is now under the jurisdiction of Newton Stewart Angling Association. This loch is a fine addition to the associations list of waters.

The loch is famous for its very large wild brown trout which are caught every season and has a considerable population of indigenous trout and this has been augmented with stocking.

The fishing is fly-only for trout and the wind will dictate where you fish on this loch, but the south shore, in the vicinity of the long peninsula, is a good place to begin. The north shore should also be carefully explored.

The association has been implementng a stocking programme in conjunction with Galloway Fisheries Trust over the last couple of seasons whereby they have been stripping wild brown trout trapped in the burns of Loch Dee itself and then releasing the fry back into the loch. Unfortunately, as much as the association would like to put boats on the loch, after advice taken from the Foresty Commission they have decided against it for safety reasons.

A days fishing at Loch Dee costs £15.00.
